History
The origin of the name Centro Social de Nossa Senhora da Conceição comes from the fact that the Patron of the Vila do Carvalho is the above-mentioned Saint.
This Centre was found in 22nd August 1980 by twenty two people that subscribe the constitution writ.
In the beginning it was thought to create a kindergarten since, the population of Vila do Carvalho was mainly constituted by children.
Later, with the delay to conclude the works and with the transformations in the society, what in the past needed for children was then needed for old people.
In 1996 it was elected a board of directors which wished to reach two goals:
ÄConclude the works;
ÄBegin to help Old people.
At 11th February 1997 began the work with the Old people of this land. This Centre worked as a place for them to be during the day and as domicile help. Then the Centre worked with fourteen Old people and three employees.
In March 1997 a new direction was chosen.
Since then till today, several spaces have been adapted for a better support to the Old age. It was created partnerships to answer with better quality to all the needs of the poorest people of this Village.
Therefore, the Centre can help young people and to all who need it, including the people who are in the “Projecto Com-Vidas".
Nowadays, we help twenty nine Old people in the day Centre, twenty two to people at domicile and we wait free meals to three poor people. The Centre also has a nourishing bank to help twenty four families.
In this institution there are thirteen to pay attention on an efficient way and with quality to the people who are benefited by this support.
The volunteers are very important to the good work of this centre, including the direction.
In this way this centre is the enterprise which employs more people in this locality.
By now this institution counts with five hundred and eighty associates, whose funds fall back in favour of the Centro Social de Nossa Senhora da Conceição. This allows us to help not only people from Vila do Carvalho, but also from Cantar de Galo and from Canhoso. In this way, and according to what the old people answer, when they are asked about the centre, this institution gives them a great help in all levels.
